--Annual Black Belt Review--

Hosted by Invitation by The School of the Serpent Kyokushinkai

Date:   September 18, 2010

Time:  9:00am – 4:00pm

Place:  City of Canyon Lake

The address of this event is, The Canyon Lake Lodge, 22200 Canyon Club Drive, Canyon Lake, CA 92587.  For those of you who have GPS this should be easy to find.  For those of you who do not have GPS go to google maps and you will be able to find the location.  Go to http://www.canyonlakepoa.com to see the city and to see a picture of the Lodge.  There is parking at the Lodge.  And, the Lodge is next to the gated property where we live and the barbeque, which is to say that we will walk from the Lodge to the barbeque.  It should be a lot of fun.

Also, tell the candidates that we will be training and learning a lot from the upper rank yudansha that attend.  My plan is to teach the 10 required forms (3 taikyokus, 5 pinans, sanchin, and tensho) so that all of us are on the same page.  I will be asking each of you to teach your favorite kata if you are willing.  I want this review to stand out in the minds of the candidates!!

--Requirements--

1.  Minimum rank:  candidates must have a rank of sankyu (brown belt) or higher.

2.  Written report:  A report must be submitted including a brief history of Kyokushin Karate and Sosai Matsutatsu Oyama.  Please include some information about the Taikyokus, Pinans, Sanchin, and Tensho.  (Note:  If a candidate has previously submitted a paper to his/her school it may be submitted again at this event. )

3.  Kata:  Candidates must know and perform the following katas:  3-Taikyokus, 5-Pinans, full Sanchin, and Tensho.  All katas should adequately show the flow of the circle and point.

4.  Tameshiwari:  Candidates (age 16 and older) must break a minimum of 2 boards with a hand and 4 boards with a foot.  (Note:  a 30-minute training session on how to properly break will be conducted prior to testing).

5.  In addition to the promotion, candidates will learn about the circle and point from Enmei Ryu Master Dan Layne and Hanshi Scott Moore.

--Grading Council--

The candidates will be graded by Hanshi Scott Moore, Enmei Ryu Master Dan Layne, and the Chief Instructors/Chairman of the attending schools.
